GESTATIONAL DIABETES

What is gestational diabetes ?:

It is a situation where the pregnant woman has high blood sugar levels.

How is it treated ?:

The Endocrinologist makes the diagnosis and proposes the appropriate treatment: changes in diet in order to control sugar intake and if necessary insulin.

What  Should I Do During Pregnancy ?:

It is essential to medical follow-up. It is essential to prevent maternal hypoglycemia to prevent negative effects on the fetus, not adequate limits.

To optimize control you need to increase the number of capillary blood glucose during pregnancy (a convenient option, as in the pre-pregnancy phase, is to use a blood glucose sensor). The appropriate blood glucose range is:

  • Preprandial (before meals): <99 mg / dl

  • Postprandial (after meals): <140mg / dl
